How to Discover Your Life’s Purpose

I get a lot of beautiful questions from amazing women about a variety of topics and one of the most common questions sounds something like those questions above.

The women in our community are asking these types of questions because for many of us there is a sense that there is SOMETHING more to our lives, but we just haven’t found it yet. Or maybe we have a hunch, but just don’t know how to get there. There’s a bit of fear and a bit of a confidence crisis.

That unknown feeling is SUPER comfortable and, quite honestly, can be REALLY scary if you’re facing that question on your own.

The unsure feeling is one that I understand quite well.

I get it because I’ve been there and I really get it because it’s now a huge part of the work I do with women – helping women discover what is holding them back, guiding them to get unstuck and moving them forward into action.

I recently received an email that sounded something like this..
“Julie, what if you just still do not know what you truly want? I know what I like to do. I know what makes me feel good. But I haven’t found my passion yet. I feel like I can’t find it.”

Ever felt that way? If so, you’re not alone.

So here’s what you need to know…

If you don’t know yet, it’s just not time to you know yet. There are keys you are gathering and tools you are building and maybe even healing that is happening – all that will ultimately lead you to your path.

If you don’t know yet, keep going.

Most of us want the answers immediately. But, we don’t realize that all of the little things we do that bring us joy will eventually connect in the future to lead us to our purpose. There’s a beautiful tapestry that you are weaving with every thing you do, even if you don’t totally SEE it all just yet.

The crazy and amazing truth is that you don’t have to know how it’s all going to fit together.

Your job isn’t to figure it all out.

Your job is to put one foot in the front of the other, doing what lights you and what brings you joy.

Your job is to take the next, obvious, exciting, feel-good step in front of you.

You may not “see” or understand how it will all connect in the future, but following what feels GOOD to you is the key to finding your purpose in life.

Your job isn’t to worry HOW it all connects, but rather to trust that IT WILL connect eventually.

If you don’t know yet, its simply not time to know yet.

When you are truly living from your heart and soul, the road you walk may not be a well-worn path because you are MAKING your path with every step you take.

So if you don’t know your passion and purpose, yet, can you trust that you’re developing it with every step forward you take?

You don’t have to know it all.

You definitely don’t have to see it all.

You just have to keep moving forward, trusting that you getting closer and closer with each baby step forward you take.

As Steve Jobs once said, “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking back. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something; your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever, because believing that the dots will connect down the road, will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well worn path. That will make all the difference.”

You see, you don’t have to “have it figured it out” just yet. The dots don’t have to connect…yet.

So, keep doing what you enjoy.

Keep doing what lights you up and trust that your passion and your purpose will reveal themselves and unfold in the exact right time, in the exact right way.

Until then, theres really no hurry at all 😉

What a relief, isn’t it?!
